A Message from the Heart: A Daughter's Love and Gratitude to Her Mother

To My Mother

As I am getting older, I see myself in my mother so much each and every day. My mother then reminds me of her mother, Granny White; then to her and her mother, Granny Janie. This makes me think of the love my mom must have felt giving birth to her firstborn, me. The feeling of sadness knowing I might not live, the happiness I was alive, and through it all she still stood strong in her faith in Jesus. Faith that He would hold my hand through childbirth complications. I imagine the love God must have felt towards Jesus, his only begotten son, who He sacrificed so that we could be saved.

Think of the sorrow and fear Mary must have felt, losing her only son at the age of thirty-three, four years younger than me. By His blood, we are saved. Growing up, I would describe my family as a low-to-medium-income family. With that said, love and support were always given. I did not realize then that the arguments we had were only due to the love she had for me. As we both are getting older physically, we are also growing spiritually, individually and together.

No matter the difficult times we may face on this earth, I know that not only am I saved, but my mother is saved through His death, burial, and resurrection. My hope is to spread the GOOD NEWS with my generation and to share that parent/child relationship. Ultimately, delivered from sin and live in eternal happiness with the ones we hold so dearly to our hearts.

Love Your Daughter, Amber Summerow
