Learning to UNLEARN: "Unleashing the Bondage of False Teachings”

Being a blood bought, born again Christian… One of the biggest things we rely on is doctrine. You should be questioning if every doctrine is from His Word or is it a made up doctrine created by traditions? Either way, the world around you will pull you in so many directions… Preachers will preach a realm of teachings from water immersion to repentance of sin for salvation. You even have those that hold fast to a “sinners prayer” or the “ask Jesus into you heart” method. Every one of these teachings plague churches around the country and will suck you into false teachings if you’re not grounded in the Word of truth.

Did you know that every teaching I listed above is unscriptural? That’s right! Not a single one of these methods I listed above are even from the Lord. I know what you’re thinking… “Surely my preacher who told me to repeat the sinners prayer to be saved is telling me the truth” or “All I was told was to ask Jesus into my heart”… I hate to break it to you but these so called “men of God” are leading you astray! That’s a hard pill to swallow when you’ve been sitting under the same preachings for 5+ years. I sympathize with you because I was there where you are. There’s so much I’ve had to unlearn along the way.

I don’t trust many and I question everything! You should too! Now lets look at some of the examples of false teachings…The way to salvation has nothing to do with water immersion, a sinners prayer or even repentance of sin. Yes, I said the big one “repenting of sin” which is not found in scripture period. You must know the definition of “repentance” to understand how to use it. Repentance specifically means a change of mind. The only time repentance holds true in terms of salvation is repenting from unbelief to belief.

You must CHANGE YOUR MIND about your old lifestyle, believe and trust in the Gospel that saves which is fully trusting in the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15: 1-4 KJV: “15 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”

Are you aware that God himself repented in scripture 36 times? Take the time to go look up Jonah 3:10 KJV… you will see a great example of God repenting in His Word. If repentance had anything to do with sin then how do you merit our sinless God “repenting of sin?” Let’s think back to water immersion… if we were to assume that had anything to do with the way to salvation, wouldn’t that imply that we would have to do a “work” or “good deed” to be saved? Salvation is a free gift by grace through faith….

Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:” So many are led to believe that water baptism is what saves or is apart of salvation period… NOPE! Just because you see “water” does not imply water baptism…Let’s look: John 3:5 KJV "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." “A man be born of water” is referring to a baby being born of water that is in the mother’s womb which is the first birth.

We are also to be “born again” of the spirit. Acts 2:38 KJV "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Let’s dissect this verse… It says “repent” or to change your mind, be “baptized in the name of Jesus:” so be baptized in Jesus (born again) so that we are no longer indebted to sin (remission of sins) that we can now receive the free gift of the Holy Ghost. Now there is nowhere that says we are to be immersed in water or baptized in water in order to be saved.

If adding any kind of work to the Gospel: which is purely keeping in memory the death, burial and resurrection to be saved, then you’re saying that Christ’s blood shed on the cross was not sufficient. He was not enough. We know that’s not true. Christ was our payment. His blood didn’t just cover our sins but washed our sins away forever…past, present and future sins. Don’t believe any teachings from someone that says you need to physically do ANYTHING for salvation. Keeping the Gospel in your memory to be saved is simple enough, even my 4 year old could do it.

Stay in the Word, find preachers that rightly divide Scripture in a King James Bible believing church. Don’t waste your time risking your eternity sitting under a man that chooses to feed you falsely each week because he doesn’t take his calling serious enough to seek scripture for himself. Question EVERYTHING! Don’t let your family get sucked into something they will have to UNLEARN! The hardest thing to learn is how to unlearn something you’ve been taught for so long. Doctrine matters, avoid the false teachers!!

Romans 16:17 KJV “Now I beseech you brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.”
